I know that USAirways flies direct from Charlotte to Orlando. Charlotte is a USAirways hub so they are the dominant carrier in Charlotte. If Air Tran flies out of Charlotte, they may be another option. Not sure if Southwest flies out of Charlotte. You can try them also. All 3 airlines mentioned are extremely safe.
9/11 and terrorism in general is just a way to try to bully us into meeting some demand by those who are committing the acts. Their purpose is to try to scare us and make us live in fear. The best way to fight this is to not change the way you are living and to be more alert, especially if you see unusual activity.
I recommend the less you bring with you the better. But CD players, laptops and Nintendos should be allowed. Don't bring bottled water, toothpaste or liquid of any kind. Even make-up and lipstick are not permitted.
Just remember that flying is the safest form of transportation. You are more likely to die in a car accident than an airplane accident. Airplane accidents always make the news because they are so rare. Plus they say the chances of surviving an airplane accident are pretty high. Aircraft are made with pretty strong material and can withstand a bomb blast.
I would recommend bringing a book or reading the inflight magazine to occupy your time. Definitely bring I.D. with you. If you are flying with your parents, you can talk to them. Talking sometimes will help calm your fears. You can also try to sleep through the flight.
As for the flight-time, I would say it should only take between 1 1/2 -2 1/2 hours to get from Charlotte to Orlando.
Hope you get over your fear. Just think about all the fun you will have in Orlando. If you really cannot take it, then drive.
US Airways & Airtran
Go to priceline.com and you get all airlines and best available that fly to and from and destination of your choice. It seems that terrorist usually target American Airlines, United, Continental, and delta. I would recommend that you fly with some of the lesser known, low key carriers like Southwest or Us Air.
The answer to your principal question can easily be found by using Expedia, Orbitz, or similar internet marketers. The flight between Orlando and Charlotte will take about two hours, so bring a book. You will need a photo ID issued by some government agency; I have occasionally used my Saudi Arabian driver's license for this, to the amusement of the clerks. (Fortunately for them, the information on the back is in English.) As for being scared, think about what it is that you are frightened of. Airplanes have been flying for a long time, and commercial aviation is about the safest way to get anywhere.
